It was a great trip shared with friends and an opportunity to make new friends. Keith, Art Ingalls and myself arrived at the park Wednesday morning to set up camp and get a head start on the fishing. We were joined later by Scott Hobbs and we decided to make a run up to the Masonboro Jetty. While Keith and Art ran the beach in search of schools of Redfish, Scott and I decided to fish the jetty and managed a couple of small Blues and a keeper Flounder.

After a cold night in camp, Keith decided that he would run to Masonboro again and Scott and I decided to run to Southport. Keith and Art managed a couple of Blues and a Grey Trout at the jetty. Scott and I came up short on the fish but learned a lesson about navigating the Cape Fear. Strong Tide against a strong north wind equals a very wet ride. I still haven't been able to remove Scott's fingerprints from the grabrail on my console. With Keith's fish and the flounder from the day before , we where able to put together a nice fish dinner. Scott added some Venison steaks and potatoes to our plates to round things out. It has been awhile since I had backstraps and Scott prepared them perfectly.
Friday Deepblue505, Tadpole1, and Ernie Gaskins arrived and we fished a bit as the wind was building with the incoming Storm. I got back to camp early to start the Low Country Boil. Jerry Dilsaver joined us for dinner and provided alot of great advice for fishing the Wilmington area. I did learn that my stockpot wasn't quite big enough for the shrimp, crabs , sausage, and other goodies for our boil.

We spent a wet night in camp on Friday night as the storm moved and drenched us good until about 3 in the morning. Unfortunately a few campers found a few leaks in their shelter. We took our time leaving camp Saturday morning as we waited for the weather to break. Which gave us time to enjoy a good breakfast. One of my coworkers arrived that morning and off to the slips we went. We found a sandbar to fish and after catching a couple of nets of finger mullet, it wasn't long before Greg Essenlohr had boated a nice Flounder. He managed to lose a couple and boat a couple a nice flounder before Tadpole was calling saying that dinner was ready. Scott was in the kitchen and provided us with the best Venison stew that I have ever had.

Sunday we broke camp early and got some fishing in before heading home. As luck would have the weather on the day that we had to leave was the best that we had all week. My boat caught a couple of Blues and an undersized flounder. I heard that Keith's boat caught Blues until they were all worn out.
Thanks to everyone who attended. I think that we all had a great time. I'm very pleased to be associated with such a great group of people , who are so willing to get together and share, tell stories, crack jokes, and just be good friends and neighbors.
Special Thanks to Capt. Jerry Dilsaver for taking the time to share his knowledge with us. Also, to our new long distance members Scott Hobbs from Kenansville, and Greg Essenlohr from Lowville , NY. I'm already looking forward to the next trip.
